With longer, sunnier days and warmer weather, summer is the ideal time to host an outdoor movie night. A DJ Connection has some tips to make your event go smoothly, whether in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Mobile or beyond:
Step 1: Select Your Movie. You will of course want to choose a film that is most appropriate for your audience, specifically by age group. In 2018, screening capabilities allow you to put on classics on DVD, or connect your computer to a projector and show movies on Netflix, Hulu and other streaming platforms (with Internet connection). Your current favorite may come out on DVD by the summer! If you plan on hosting a Summer Movie Series, cue up a few diverse movies or theme your selections, like Disney/Pixar Night.
HINT: Think beyond movies! Though the Super Bowl has passed, we still have March Madness, monthly UFC and boxing matches, and the 2018 World Cup all upcoming.
Step 2: Determine Your Venue. With enough preparation, even the backyard can become a suitable theater under the stars. Take into consideration the seating arrangements: should moviegoers bring beach towels and lawn chairs or will your event fit into a stadium with permanent seats? Regardless of size, it is important to make sure you have access to a power source in your chosen venue.
Step 3: Acquire a Projector. A DJ Connection will rent out the Optoma Technology Full HD Short-Throw Projector to you for this kind of event, which is ideal for large projections with its 3500 lumens of brightness. It can be placed within 3’ of the screen and still produce a 60” image! For smaller projections, A DJ Connection also rents out projectors form brands like Eiki, Sony and BenQ, suitable for classrooms or other installations where the projector is mounted close to the screen.
Step 4: Get a Large Screen. You have many options for your choice of screen! We rent out a 24 foot inflatable movie screen, perfect for indoors or outdoors. Or try out the Global Truss Lycra Video Screen, made of 4-way stretch Lycra that can be used at almost any shape and any size up to 8 to 10' by 6 to 8.5'. Images can be projected onto the front or the rear of the rugged, weatherproof screen. We also rent out Da-Lite brand screens, ideal for business or educational presentations!
Step 5: Treat Yo’ Self. If you don’t have access to concessions, then you’ll need to think of some snack ideas on the fly! Citronella candles and torches to ward off mosquitos are a must as we enter summer. Lighting, tents, blankets and pillows are other welcome additions to make your movie night much more comfortable.
