When asked "Have you ever been at a wedding or party where the DJ was not good.

Most people answer "Yes"

When asked "What was the name of the DJ or DJ service"

Most people answer "I don't know"

When asked "Who's wedding or party were you at?"

They answer "Yes and give the name of the person responsible for the poor DJ"

Your entertainment is a reflection of you and will be remembered by all in attendance. Make sure that memory is a good one.

Shopping tips from the nations leading wedding publications.

1. Plan ahead.  Most Brides begin planning their wedding 9 Months to a year in advance but wait until the last minute to hire a DJ.  When you start planning your reception don't forget the most important ingredient to a fun reception, your mobile DJ.

2. Shop for quality.  Sometimes easier said than done when the typical bride might not fully understand what "quality" in a mobile DJ service is.  The idea is to generally see and evaluate mobile DJs in exactly the same light as you see and evaluate things like hotels, cars, and doctors.  Do not assume that all mobile DJ companies are alike.  Do assume that high quality will cost more than low quality.

3. Realize the importance of the DJ to your wedding reception's success.   National magazine surveys report that happy brides consistently say that the DJ was most responsible for their wedding reception's success.  The average percentage of importance they've assigned is 70%.  Some people will remember your gorgeous wedding dress.  Some people will remember great food, some will remember a beautiful cake.   Everybody will remember whether they had a good time or not.

4. Make sure your DJ knows what you want and expect BEFORE your wedding day.  Fill out your questionnaire and arm your DJ with as much personal information as you can.

5. Get and check references.  Talking to friends, family are a great way to check a DJ service's reputation in your city.  Ask your photographer, videographer, caterer, banquet manager about the DJ service you are considering.

6.  Ensure that your vision of your wedding day becomes a reality.   If those happy brides are even close to right that the entertainment was 70% responsible for the wedding reception's success, then it appears that the DJ's responsibly goes quite a bit further than "just playing music."  The best ones understand this and have taken mobile DJ entertainment from a job to an art.  That's why they are consistently referred, and are booked 6 months in advance.  Don't try to use only your leftover time and spend only your leftover money, or you will probably end up with a leftover DJ.

Reception Schedule: When to do What

Sample Timeline
Below is a basic run-down of reception events following an early evening ceremony. Keep in mind, it's only a timeline! (Your own affair doesn't need to be as detailed and rigid.) The key to planning is being aware of your own needs and those of your guests, so feel free to innovate!
6 P.M. Guests arrive; bride, groom and attendants are having pictures taken elsewhere. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres are served as your DJ plays background music.
6:30 Bride, groom and attendants join the reception. Introductions
6:45 Meet and greet, Bride and Groom Mingle
7:00 Lets Eat!     Bride and Groom eat first
7:45 Bride and grooms First Dance, Father Daughter Dance, Bridal Party Dance
8:00 Open Dance for all guests, DJ accepts requests, Dance time!
8:30 Toast in front of wedding cake, and possibly some "words of honor" from the wedding party, followed by Cutting of the cake, then  Cake is served.
9:30 Bouquet and garter Toss
9:45--? Bride and Groom's departure.   Bride and groom get to start their honeymoon!
Of course, your DJ / emcee can be named to keep things running seamlessly.  Note: A reliable-and willing-family member can lend intimacy to the reception by making some announcements, and  thank you's from the Bride and groom over the PA is very nice.
One final note: Been-there brides encourage you to wrap up all the formal group photos early. That way you'll be quicker to cut loose, knowing that your only remaining responsibility is to have fun. And voila, you're married!

Location, Location, Location: All About Reception Sites

Have you decided on your wedding and reception facility?

The question has just been popped-and what you really need now is a place to hold a party. Reception sites today are breaking the wedding mold when it comes to creativity and special settings.

There are basically two general types of locations. The first is on-site, which means that the place can provide services such as food, drinks, wait staff, tables, linens, china, maybe even flowers, music and the wedding cake. Some favorite on-site places include:

Hotels
Restaurants
Clubs
Catering halls
Church and community centers
Corporate centers
Inns or bed-and-breakfast establishments

The other location type is off-site: There are no services offered. You have your own space or pay a rental fee for one and bring in everything yourself, from seats to spoons. The good news? You can have it all your way. Here are some popular off-site places:

Yachts
Mansions
Botanical gardens
Wineries
Museums
Historic buildings
Zoos
College
Amusement parks
Racetracks
Aquarium
On the beach
